Sofia Came Through Surgery Like a Little Trooper

I want to thank everyone who sent well wishes to us for Sofia's cleft palate surgery. You will never know how much your kindness meant to us. Sofia's surgery was scheduled for 11:30am today, but Dr. Tatum ran over with the first surgery he had scheduled and Sofia did not get taken to the back until 1:30pm. She pulled through great. John, Grandma C. and I anxiously awaited news that the surgery was successful and Dr. Tatum came into the waiting room at 5:45pm to let us know that all went well. I cannot describe how heartbreaking it was not to feed Sofia this morning and to hand her over to the doctors. She was such a good little girl and we cannot thank our lucky stars enough for the wonderful work Dr. Tatum did. I tried to stay strong for Sofia and not let her see me cry. After the surgery she was transferred to the ICU recovery room. Sofia was very swollen after the surgery. I could barely even recognize my little sweet pea. She has blood dripping from her nose and sounded very congested. The doctor said that this was normal and we had no reason to worry. It just killed us to see our little girl in so much pain. John and I both held her for about an hour and my mom is at the hospital right now. We decided to take shifts so one of us would be with Sofia at all times. John and I are going to go in the morning and my mom will come home and sleep. We are fortunate to have Grandma C. here to help us. Sofia is going to be very sore for the next few days. She will probably be in the hospital for 5-6 days. We are so happy to have our little girl's palate repaired. She is the center of our lives and we are so lucky to be her parents. I also want so send a big thank you to my friend Carla. Carla is a wonderful friend that I am very fortunate to have. Thanks for the lovely gifts you sent our little girl. She is going to love them!

So glad she is in the clear! I'm glad you had it done here!! Emily was kicked out of her hospital over in you know where because they didn't feel it was worth the extra cost! Can you imagine! I think that is wonderful that someone is there for her around the clock!!
Hugs!!!

It sounds difficult but glad the surgery went well and is over! I hope by now they have her out of pain. I thought they could monitor that by checking pulse, etc... and then give her something. Hope that anesthesiologist is on the ball and the days get easier. Glad your mom is there to help too! Take good care. Love, Dale

Jonni,

please forgive me, I have been so caught up with our referral and the possible diagnosis of a more menacing issue that I completely forgot to come and see how Miss Sofia is doing.

It IS hard to see your baby in pain. I am thinking about you guys. I hope she is feeling better.

Hi Jonni,

So sorry I'm late to posting to you blog. I'm so glad Sofia has done so wonderfully. It's so heart breaking to see our children come out of surgery. It's also so amazing, how fast they bounce back. Just wait and see, because Sofia is going to blow you away. Hang in there girl.

What beautiful news, Jonni. I've been out of the country & offlist a bit, so I apologize for the lateness of my wishes. They are sincere nonetheless.

Go Sofia! Go Jonni!!!!! Hugs to you both - and John, too, of course. XO

Oh Jonni,
I'm sorry that I did not check in and know that this was happening. This is the second cleft surgery that I know of this week.
I am glad to hear that things went well. It is so hard when your children go in for surgery.
I'm glad that it is over. She will be ok and much better for it. Big Hug.
