• Hi There!

Hi, my name is Jonni and I am Mommy to Sofia (5 years old) and Samantha (6 years old) and wife to John. We reside in upstate NY. Our daughters are 5 mos. apart in age and a whole lot of fun. Sofia is from Jinchang City, Gansu and she turned 11 mos. during our trip to bring her home from China in 2007. Samantha is 5 mos. older but was our 2nd adoption. She was 3 years, 4 mos. when we brought her home from China in 2009. She is from Yangzhou City, Jiangsu.

I love blogging about our girls, photography, fonts, printables & crafts and I also have a slightly obsessive John Mayer addiction. Thank you for stopping by. :)

What’s Been Going On?…Everything!

I have been a pretty pathetic blogging buddy lately. I have not had a chance to visit my favorite blogs this week and have been super-busy. So busy in fact, yesterday was John and my 7th wedding anniversary and it completely slipped my mind. I was on my way to my friend Norie’s house and called John from my cell phone to wish him happy anniversary (lol). I am so lucky to be married to my Prince Charming and I can’t believe 7 years have passed since we were married. I would post a photo but right now it’s 3am and I am too tired to dig one out to scan.

Last Saturday we went to the 1st Annual Lantern Festival sponsored by our local FCC. It was a nice event and there was a huge turnout. We had a tasty Chinese dinner and then all the kids decorated battery-operated Chinese lanterns. We got to see our best friends Norie, John, Collin and Cecelia. We were lucky to see our friends on Saturday and again yesterday for lunch.

Today, I received the readoption documents from my Mother-In-Law and she prepared everything so all we have to do is go to the courthouse and file the papers for Sofia’s readoption. Even though the adoption in China was official, we want Sofia to receive a birth certificate since all we received in China was the adoption decree. We are trying to get the NY State adoption to go through by November 14th (National Adoption Day) because our city has a big celebration at the Convention Center and hundreds of adoptees show up to do their official adoption. I am so excited and hope we can make it in time. If not, we can just have a smaller celebration at the courthouse when the adoption case goes before the judge. My MIL rocks! She gathered all the forms and prepared them and we had to get a few documents together, but other than that it was pretty straight forward. I will be glad to finally have a birth certificate for Sofia. My MIL will also be coming here from Long Island for Sofia’s readoption since she is the attorney representing us. Even though my MIL usually practices real estate law, she researched the adoption rules and was able to help us. I know this will mean a lot to Sofia when she gets older. She will love that her grandma assisted with her adoption. It sure does mean a lot to us.

We are flying to Charleston, SC tomorrow morning and will be back on Tuesday. John’s cousin Erin is getting married and we are also going to visit my mom who lives in Mt. Pleasant. I am really looking forward to seeing my mom and my brother may travel from Charlotte to visit as well. I also can’t wait to see Erin and meet her fiancée/soon to be hubby. This will be the first wedding Sofia will attend, so I hope she does okay. I am sure she will because she is pretty easy-going most of the time. I am going to try to catch up on my blog reading when we get back…promise! To my friend Jill – I am sorry that I have not completed my “You’ve Been Tagged” post, but I promise I will when I return.

Here are some photos from last week. My friend Gina sent Sofia an adorable apron and chef’s hat with her name on it and I took some photos of her helping me cook. Okay, she was really sucking on her blankie and lying on the floor, but the hat and apron made her look like she was cooking (lol). The other photos are from the FCC Lantern Festival we attended on Saturday. See you next week.

Killlashandra - The lantern festival looks like fun. That would be neat one to have around here too.

That’s great news about the adoption paperwork. I hope the birth certificate comes in time for national adoption day, that would be such a great experience. :)

MotherMotherOcean - Groovy lanterns. Good luck with the readoption stuff. Ours went pretty smoothly.
