• Hi There!

Hi, my name is Jonni and I am Mommy to Sofia (5 years old) and Samantha (6 years old) and wife to John. We reside in upstate NY. Our daughters are 5 mos. apart in age and a whole lot of fun. Sofia is from Jinchang City, Gansu and she turned 11 mos. during our trip to bring her home from China in 2007. Samantha is 5 mos. older but was our 2nd adoption. She was 3 years, 4 mos. when we brought her home from China in 2009. She is from Yangzhou City, Jiangsu.

I love blogging about our girls, photography, fonts, printables & crafts and I also have a slightly obsessive John Mayer addiction. Thank you for stopping by. :)

Snow, Holiday Lights & Shooting in RAW

So we have been getting quite a bit of snow here over the past week and a half. It is really pretty and I enjoy it, at least until Christmas. The thing I don’t like is when we are still getting snow in April, but that comes with the territory when you live in upstate…

Colleen - LOVE your card and LOVE the photos of Sofia with the lights! You are quite the amazing photographer!!!!
I just know your enjoying this wonderful time of year !!!

bbmomof2boys - Did the snow freeze your camera?

:)

~Carla

Shelle - Love your blog- amazing photos!

I was “blog hopping” tonight and your avatar photo caught my eye so I clicked- so glad I did!

We adopted our daughter from Hunan in August 2007.

Michelle

Killlashandra - I can’t believe all the snow you have! Wow. NM just got some in the mountains which is good as people have been complaining about the lack of snow for skiing so far this year. ;) Wonderful pictures with christmas lights too. Hope you had a great THanksgiving.

Beverly - she is adorable. love the christmas card.

Liene - Jonni, I just love, love, love your photos. You are getting so good and making me jealous of how well yours turn out. I’m especially loving the photos of the snow. Lane lived in upstate NY for about 5 yrs as a child and misses the snow. I miss the snow too since we can get a decent amount in the Midwest. I’m hoping I will see a white Christmas in Indiana this year.

Keep those pictures coming!!!

Carol - Ok that is IT! You are coming to MD and taking Em’s photos!

She is in desperate need of some GOOD photos!!!

I suck……I kneel at your greatness……….

Dannye - wow, what amazing photos (but then again you always take amazing photos!)…and here we thought it was cold here in Fla. when it got in the 30′s overnight….don’t envy you guys in the bit…brrr…hope you enjoy your thanksgiving!!!

*Overflowing* - Oh my…she looks soooo grown up in those last pictures!!! Tell her to stop that ;)

Kristy - I know I sound like a broken record but you take incredible pictures, I love the Christmas card and I don’t think the baby looks washed out at all, but the Christmas light pictures are just priceless, I love them!!!

Happy Thanksgiving.

Love and blessings, Kristy

Janet - Great post!!!!!!!!!! I always love to see pictures of your sweetheart!

I’m so jealous that you already did your letter. I’m seriously doubting that ours will be sent out at all this year. I just don’t think I’m up for it yet….;-)

And as for shooting in the raw…….wow. You’re brave. I bet you skinny dip too….LOL!

My Heart Beats In China - Hi Jonni,
Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Love the new photos and beautiful Christmas Card.

The snow looks so prestine, refreshing and hey bring it to NJ already!

Wonderful photos. Enjoy Thanksgiving!

Ivy, Dani and Kira

Cheri H - Oh, that is a great Christmas card photo!

redmaryjanes - I truly love your Christmas card photo, it is lovely!
Happy Thanksgiving to you.

bbmomof2boys - Nice pics girl!! Umm…if Big T sees that Syracuse sweatshirt he’s gonna have a FIT!!

Hugs,
Carla

MotherMotherOcean - The card looks great. Want to come take a picture over here? We are having issues, to say the least.

laura - dolcepics - I love your Christmas card! Very nicely done and those photos are fabulous. I love her winter jacket! Are those mittens attached?

Great to hear you are shooting in RAW. I just wrote an article about that recently… RAW is GOOD. :)

http://www.dolcepics.com/articles/raw-vs-jpg/

Michelle - Beautiful pictures as usual. We are still having weather in the 80′s here. I am wishing for something a little cooler for the holidays.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Jennifer - I love the pictures with the lights and your Christmas card!!! You and Debbie with your lightroom and batches and shooting in RAW-ya’ll are so smart. I am lucky I can get my camera on :)

Denise Olson - oh love ‘em all!!! Your card is gorgeous!!! Sofia is going to have sooo much this Christmas!! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving…lots of hugs and kisses!!

-denise:)

HuluMama - Gorgeous pictures!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

The Gang's All Here! - #1 Welcome back. Missed reading you. Got a little thrill when I saw your name in my reader. :) I’m sick, I know.

#2 Love LOVE LUH-UHVE the Syracuse sweatshirt. I want one for me. I miss my college team sweatshirts. I miss my college sweatshirt body. Sigh.

#3 This post and all its gorgeous, white snowy pictures are why I am sooooo happy not to live in Upstate NY anymore. One or two flurries and I’m done. I am no longer a NY tough gal. I’m a winter wimp. Complete with whining when the snow turns to slush.

#4 I obviously have some serious avoidance issues. My to do list is like a mile long and here I sit, typing a numerated comment list to you. (shaking head and sighing)

National Adoption Day/Sofia’s Readoption Day

This is a follow-up to my last post on Sofia’s readoption day. I had a few people inquire as to why we readopted Sofia since she was officially adopted by John and me in China and I thought I would explain why. The main reason we readopted Sofia in NY State is so that we…

laura - dolcepics - Oh what a happy celebration!!

Shannon and Dan - What a special day for your family. I loved all the photos and the video. Congratulations on your readoption day.

Jill - Jonni, I just had a chance to see the adoption day video and I LOVED it! How lucky are you to get something like that for Sofia to look back on??? The newspaper too!
Hugs to you all!

PIPO - LOVE the photos of the special day.

My goodness, your family is just beautiful!

My Heart Beats In China - Hello,
This is one of the most exciting and beautiful ceremonies I’ve seen! It’s actually funny that I wondered onto your site, because today we received our daughter’s birth certificate too! We didn’t have to re-adopt here in NJ, but it was just as exciting to get that document.

Congratulations on NY’s future tax payer and your upcoming 2nd adoption!

Happy Thanksgiving.

Ivy and Family

Carol - PS…I hope I look as good as the Grandparents in your photos when I get to that stage!!!!!!!

Carol - Hey Jonni! I’ve been reading!

I left you a big note the other day and the computer dumped it!

I have a problem loading your site…..can’t figure out what the trouble is……probably all the BEAUTIFUL photos!!!!!

*Overflowing* - Too fun! Congratulations! Beautiful pictures, btw.

Snowflowers Mum - wow Jonni, I’m so pleased you were able to do this on Adoption Day, I know how much you had wanted to! Sofia looked beautiful in her ‘fancy’ dress.

We still need to do Paisley’s readoption…it will probably happen in March.

I love these family photos!!!! Cool as beans!

Beverly - congrats love the blanket! G has one that is pink with ladybugs all on it.

PerfectPearDesign - I came across your blog as I was out blogstalking… and before I knew it I was in tears. What a beautiful experience for your little family.

MotherMotherOcean - Wow, what an event. I had no idea. She stands out in the crown. Ah, she looked so cute in that dress. Congrats again.

Denise Olson - oh this post made me smile….just thinking that such wonderful people are giving these little ones such fortune of life and providing them with warm loving families… Sofia, as I said before, is just most luckiest little girl to have you and John as parents!!! lots of hugs and kisses!!!

Liene - Those are great photos!!! It looks like it was such a great day. Sofia’s dress is just adorable. I’m so looking forward to the day I can buy cute, froo-froo dresses.

Wow, I was also impressed by the family adopting triplets. I’m sure it’s hard work but very rewarding too.

Pixel Fairy Princess - Look at you guys :D How special!!!
What an incredible moment this must have been for you!

Love the window light images too – they are my favorite. I love how the light frames her face so nicely and then drops off to pitch black :D Great job!

Ladybug hugs,
;D

jwhitacre - How special…and Sofia looks as beautiful as ever!

redmaryjanes - Wow, what an amazing ceremony. Sofia looks absolutely beautiful~

Colleen - Ohhhhh these are sooooo special!!! I just love them. Sofia looks so beautiful! What a sweetheart! I love the newspaper photo with her touching the flag! What a wonderful day!

Kristy - Jonni what beautiful pictures and what a beautiful ceremony. I have giant goosebumps!!!!

Love and blessings, Kristy

National Adoption Day

Today was a wonderful day for our family. Today Sofia officially was adopted in NY State and will have a birth certificate registered in her name. The Adoption Day celebration was wonderful and I will be following up with photos as soon as I get them downloaded. My good friend Norie called tonight and told…

Jill - Congratulations to you all!! We are soooooo happy for you! Looking forward to the pics!

Nikki - Jonni, shoot me an email when you have a moment – gotta talk to you about something.
Thanks!

Shannon and Dan - Yay Congratulations! We don’t have a readoption day up in the great white north but I think that it is such a neat idea. It helps to have a national day to celebrate adoption and bring more awareness to it. I can’t wait to see Sofia’s tv appearance.

redmaryjanes - Congratulations! That is wonderful. I thought that Sofia would be considered adopted automatically since you and your husband both went to China together.

Colleen - Congratulations!!!!! And what a special day to have as your readoption day! We too went through the readoption with Faith and I am so happy we did. We actually had it exactly one year later to the day of our adoption day in China.
I’m excited to see Sofia in her debut too!! She’s our little star!!!!:)
Congrats again!!!!

somethingcheeky - Congratulations!!! That is so exciting! And how cool that Sofia made her big television debut! Can’t wait to see the photos!

Early Intervention Assessment & Readoption

Yesterday two ladies came out to assess Sofia for the early intervention program for our county. She scored very well on everything but her speech and some cognitive things. For instance, sometimes she will completely assemble one of her shapes puzzles, while other times she will want me to help her finish it. The ladies…

Killlashandra - I’m glad the speech therapy is a go. That’s great news. :)

Nikki - I had thought a lot about the early intervention for Lily (especially with her speech)…but, in time, she caught up and is now doing SO well – as will your girl.

Love the pictures – her face is as sweet as they come!
XO

laura - dolcepics - Love that window light! Glad everything worked out with the speech assessment! And have fun at the convention centre.

Sophie had a partially plugged tear duct when she was younger (it unplugged itself eventually)… which led to an infection and painful IV (which didn’t even work cuz she was so chubby). So I’m glad to hear that Sofia will get that surgery done. My doctor also said that it’s very fast and easy so Sofia should be fine.

Haha… those cords. I have a picture like that too!
http://www.dolcepics.com/dailypic/bored/

Normally I just have them hooked into the blinds where she can’t reach them. hehe

Janet - She is sooo beautiful!!!!!!!!

ANd yes, I believe she will do fine also!

Denise Olson - oh, she is doing just fine mom!! I’m how old and still can’t complete tasks or follow through by myself!!! Needless to say the big hurdle of accomplishment from my 2 year old is his “secret handshake” – spits in his hand then extends his hand to shake (OK, he got that from Flushed Away!!)… um..no worries. The photos of Sofia are just stunning. great capture of the window light. love these…cherish them forever!! :)

PS. sending you xmas ideas soon!! swimming in photos right now:)

PIPO - Stunning photos…cord or not!

Most 20-year-olds I know have questionable ‘follow-through’. No sweat, mama. Your girl will do just fine.

redmaryjanes - Wow, she seems awfully young for those expectations. I’m sure that she is going to be just fine.
I love your pictures!

somethingcheeky - Oh I am so glad things worked out for you!! Although I have to say I’m suprised that they expect a 2 year old to “follow through” with task…since I still have a hard time with that, LOL! I’m sure she’ll be catching up very quickly with her speech…I’m sure the fact that she heard Chinese for the first part of her life has a lot to do with it.
Those photos are adorable! There is nothing better than window light to illuminate such a cute little face!!

Sofia at 25 Months, Halloween Photos, EI & Baby Powder Incident

Okay, I know I am a major slacker. I have been working on a project for my dear MIL and just finished it so I am hoping to get by to everybody’s blogs starting tonight. I am doing a quick update from our week since I really want to get off of here and check…

duello13 - I am glad I just found your blog! As an adoptive mom I really appreciate the support and communication out there. I am reading Chicken Soup for Adopted Soul right now and it is so inspiring and fun I thought I’d recommend it…

*Overflowing* - LOL…why could I see my girls doing that?!?!? Oooohhh, the 3 of them together would be bad news :)

PIPO - FABULOUS pictures. Sofia made for one outstandingly cute little ladybug.

The baby powder looks a bit like a modern art project to me :0)

amazing grace - awwww what a cutie patootie ladybug!!! love it! and the baby powder pics are great!

Carol - Oh wow, little minds think alike…Emily poured powder all over our tv stand in the room…I confess I haven’t had time to clean it yet……we have been crazy busy!

Love the ladybug outfit……oh to shop in NY…sigh………hee hee

Grandma Monica - I started smiling the minute I read the title to your post. I cheated and went straight for the photos then the story. Too Funny! Precious Little Ladybug..dainty, loved the thirsty squatter photo. And what a good mom to grab the camera first before worrying about a dusty floor. BRAVO. Are we related and no one told us. I continue to say a little prayer for those still waiting and just beginning the adoption process. An extra prayer for her assessment process, We have begun a new search for Lil Orchid, this program for P/T ends when she turns 3 yrs in Feb. What are they thinking, she turns three and she’s cured?? Oh sorry, not gonna go there. A big thanks for visiting our story and comments left. Maybe I’m weird but they make me feel good. Not to forget Lil Orchid says “aww purdy BeBe La-De-Bug” Can’t wait for the new adventures!

kerri - ROTFL, those baby powder photos are hilarious!! I love the one where Sofia is holding up the baby powder, is she surrendering it or just showing that this was the culprit, LOL!!! This takes me back to when Jillian decided to empty a whole box(huge box form Co*stco)of baby wipes, it looked like snow banks in her nursery, of course I run for the camera!!!
Cute little ladybug BTW….

Denise Olson - What a cute lit’l lady bug!! and she loved being in it!! and the baby powder is just the beginning…I don’t dare post most of what Jack Jack does..I’ll look like a bad mother. (just keep the vaseline out of reach…kids think that is cool too:)
too sweet.
hang in there with the assessments…

Janet - She is the cutest ladybug EVER.

And baby powder. Apparently, I did that to my mom when I was little. Except that I poured the ENTIRE bottle into my bath water. oops.

Jill - So glad to have you back! Thanks for the wonderful comments! You are so good to me! :) Also, THANK YOU so much for the stickers you sent Miss Lucy. She had a BALL!

somethingcheeky - Baby powder! No wonder she was so quiet! Ha! Those pictures are priceless!
I hope you get her assesment soon…that must be sooo frustrating! I would encourage you to go with your gt, even if she doesn’t meet the requirements for intervention and get some outside help if you are concerned…early is ALWAYS better for these kind of things.
She was sucha cute ladybug! I’m glad you are keeping buy while waiting for your next child! I’m sure it makes it a little easier!

laura - dolcepics - How funny with the baby powder. I was reading this post and looked over at Sophie and guess what she was doing? Sprinkling milk rain from her sippy cup all over the floor! How fitting. :)

Sofia is the cutest little ladybug!!

Jill - Where have you been woman? LOL!
I have missed you and Miss Sofia. She must be the cutest ladybug I have seen this year, and I LOVE the baby powder picture. (Does it come up off the hardwood better than carpet?..haha At least it smells nice!) Here’s to hoping you get DTC soon!
