I just finished the preparations for CNY at the girls school tomorrow (make that today). Since the girls only attend preschool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday I asked their teachers if we could celebrate it tomorrow and they thought that it would be a great idea. I found the cute little Chinese takeout boxes in the dollar section at Target and even though they were really meant for Valentine’s Day, I figured they would work well for CNY as well. The girls and I bought fortune cookies and semi-sweet chocolate chips and melted the chocolate and dipped the fortune cookies in the chocolate. We added sprinkles to some and then we ran out so the rest were just dipped in chocolate. I would like to say that I am talented enough to make homemade fortune cookies but I tried it one year and it was a total disaster, so I just buy them and dip them. We also went to a local Asian market and bought chopsticks and Chinese hard candy. I hope the kids will enjoy it. it’s nothing big but hopefully the class will enjoy learning about another culture. I just finished printing a little packet of information for each child. Since the kids are so young, I included a very brief explanation of CNY, and a few worksheets to color. I found some handy items to print here. The girls are so excited to wear their Chinese dresses tomorrow and I am headed to bed now so I can get up early with the girls. I hope you have a fun CNY on Thursday and I would love to hear if you have special plans to celebrate the day.
The next couple of days are going to be so exciting as I wait for one of my very best friends Gina to receive her referral. It may be one baby or it may be twins and we are so excited for her and her husband Gordon. Here is her blog if you would like to follow along and congratulate her when she gets the great news. She has waited almost 5 years and now the time has finally come. We started our adoption journey together and I can’t wait to see her new baby or babies since they are approved for twins.
